About Me

Hi! I am Mario, a biomedical engineer from Barcelona, Spain, currently pursuing a master’s degree in Design at the d.school. I am interested in how people make sense of their needs, transforming research data into actionable insights, and converting these insights into specific steps for designing and manufacturing meaningful products.

Before coming to Stanford, I worked at Hospital Clinic—a public hospital in Barcelona—for seven years, where I focused on designing and equipping new healthcare facilities such as operating rooms and Intensive Care Units. During that time, I started and raised funds for several innovation projects within the hospital, all grounded in needs I observed in my daily work. You can find more details about some of these initiatives in my portfolio.

In 2023, I joined a startup called Odapt, which aims to improve the quality of life for people living with ostomy bags, with a special focus on people living in rural areas of low-income countries.

I feel the urgency to design meaningful products in healthcare that can address real patient’s needs. For this reason, I came to Stanford to learn design tools and methods that can impact positively the quality and sustainability of public healthcare.
